Here goes.

When a friend of mine suggested I try blogging a couple years ago, I initially thought perhaps the stress of a small business startup was getting to him; it gets to a lot of people.

Now here I am. The idea of publishing information in small doses, as opposed to all the work that goes into a book project, is appealing.

I have a lot of interests and enjoy experimenting with different things. In my day job, I work in Information Security conducting code audits and testing systems and applications for security flaws. Used to be when I came home at night, I just did more of the same only I was looking at off-the-shelf software, but this past year I've developed a much broader interest; or maybe I should say I rediscovered it.

So, in the last six months or so, I've built a small “coffee can” foundry (although mine really isn't a coffee can) to melt down soft metals, remodelled my garage into a workshop, bought a lathe, a milling machine, lots and lots of tools for those two items (FYI: the tooling for a lathe and mill will cost you more than the lathe and mill does!), just got an oscilloscope and a variety of other tools.

I'm planning to work on a variety of electronics, robotics and home-brew energy projects this year and I'll be using this blog to document some of those projects.
